Buying a high-pressure homogenizer is a 20-to-40-year decision. The machine you choose determines your product quality, energy bill and maintenance costs for decades. This guide walks through the five questions our engineers ask every customer — so you can shortlist the right homogenizer machine with confidence.
1. What capacity do you actually need?
Capacity (liters per hour) is the first filter. Size the machine on your real production flow — not on peak ambition. A homogenizer running at 30–100% of rated capacity with capacity control is more efficient than an oversized machine idling. The BOS MG series covers the full spectrum:

2. How much pressure does your product need?
Pressure requirements follow from the product, as explained in our article on the Funktionsprinzip des Homogenisators. Dairy typically needs 100–250 bar, sauces and beverages 150–400 bar, pharmaceutical and cosmetic emulsions 400–1,000+ bar. Buying more pressure than you need means paying for energy and wear you never use; buying too little caps your product quality.
3. Hygiene: does it need to be CIP-ready?
For food, dairy and pharma, cleaning-in-place is non-negotiable. Look for a sanitary design with a minimum of parts and seals — fewer parts means faster cleaning validation and lower spare-part costs. Every BOS machine is designed for C.I.P. as standard.
4. What does the machine really cost over 20 years?
The purchase price is a fraction of total cost of ownership. The real drivers are energy consumption per 1,000 liters, wear parts (valves, plungers, seals) and downtime. 5. Who services the machine — and how fast?
