Homogenising Valve Assembly
The valve assembly is the heart of the homogenizer. It is where the actual particle size reduction takes place — product is forced at high pressure through a narrow gap, and the combination of shear, cavitation, and turbulence breaks particles down to the target size.
Valve (homogenising valve): A precision-machined disc or plug that sits against the valve seat. The gap between valve and seat determines the degree of homogenisation. Valves are available in various materials — Stellite for general dairy use, tungsten carbide for abrasive products, and ceramic or diamond-coated variants for extreme applications.
Valve seat: The stationary counterpart to the valve. The valve seat must be perfectly flat and concentric; any irregularity causes uneven particle size distribution. Valve and seat always wear as a pair and should be replaced together.
Valve stop (valve spring guide): Controls the hydraulic back-pressure that holds the valve against the seat. Adjusting the valve stop changes the homogenising pressure and, consequently, the particle size result.
Impact ring: Positioned downstream of the valve gap, the impact ring provides a secondary surface for particle collision. This additional shear stage improves homogenisation efficiency and product uniformity.

Cylinder Assembly (Pump Block)
The cylinder assembly — also called the pump block or compression block — is the high-pressure pump that drives product through the valve. It converts rotary drive motion into reciprocating plunger strokes, generating the extreme pressures required for homogenisation.

Connecting rods: Link the crankshaft to the crossheads. They transmit force while accommodating the angular motion of the crank throw. Connecting rod bearings are a maintenance-critical item.
Crossheads: Convert the angular motion of the connecting rods into linear motion for the plungers. The crosshead also provides the seal boundary between the oil-lubricated drive side and the product-wetted pump side.
Main bearings: Support the crankshaft and absorb radial and axial loads. Bearing wear is a primary cause of excessive vibration and noise.
Electric motor and drive coupling: The motor provides the input power, typically connected through a belt drive, gear reducer, or direct coupling. Variable frequency drives (VFDs) allow speed adjustment for process flexibility.

Lubrication System
The lubrication system protects all moving parts in the drive assembly. Reliable lubrication is one of the single most important factors in homogenizer longevity.
Oil pump: Circulates lubricating oil through the crankcase, ensuring all bearings, crossheads, and gears receive adequate lubrication under all operating conditions.
